Nathan joined Kennedy Lillis Schmidt & English in 2007 and specializes in all phases of complex, commercial disputes including litigation, arbitration, mediation, and appeals. The majority of Nathan’s practice involves:
- Subrogation litigation against ocean, air, and motor carriers, freight forwarders, and forwarding agents
- Coverage interpretation and litigation of marine cargo, hull, charterer’s legal liability, and personal injury claims
- Commercial contract formation and litigation
- Litigation of international sales contracts, including those potentially subject to the U.N. Convention on the International Sale of Goods (C.I.S.G.).
Before joining the Firm, Nathan received his Masters of Law from the University of Hong Kong, where he focused on international trade and investment. He earned the degree of Juris Doctor from Thomas Cooley Law School where he was Articles Editor for the Law Review and a Constitutional Law Teaching Assistant. While in Lansing, Nathan also clerked for then Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Bill Schutte, now Michigan’s Attorney General.
Before earning his law degree and during his legal studies, Nathan taught a variety of subjects to various groups of students in Michigan and Shanghai, China and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.
Admitted to the Bar: 2007, New York. Admitted to the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Sixth Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of New York. Education: Grand Valley State University (B.S. 1999); Thomas Cooley Law School (J.D. cum laude, 2005); University of Hong Kong (LL.M., 2006).
